Iwamichi was sitting in the library, thinking about the mission she had just ended. Everything went smoothly as expected. She breathed in the rustic and crisp smell of old books. This was her paradise. A spring of knowledge and power. Reading did not require a lot of energy at all, so she usually came here to spend her extra time. Sitting silently at a table in the corner of the farthest book aisle, Iwamichi observed other guild members walking by through a small window. As each went by, she tried judging their strength and her chances on overpowering them. Even though she was now C-class, she felt like there was still a large gap between her power and the abilities of the others in the guild.
She had to keep improving herself and learning new spells, getting stronger and smarter. She pondered this. There had to be a quick (or quicker) way to make her fighting ability greater for her next mission. Thoughtfully, she looked down at the whip latched to her waist. Now that she was c-class, nothing was stopping her from also upgrading her whip's class. Maybe she could get some better armor too depending on how much money it would cost. Perfect, that was what she needed. An even stronger item. Then, she would work on more spells after tackling another couple of missions. Because she was so often in the library and because she was very familiar with the layout of the room, Iwamichi immediately knew where she could find books that would tell her the best place to go to get her weapon upgraded. She gently lifted a small, red, and tightly-bound book from a shelf from the shelf labeled .234. This was her starting point.
The book wasn't especially new, but it looked like it was opened relatively recently. She flipped through the contents. It directed her to a man named Lucien, an expert in upgrading and improving items. The best way to get a hold of this man was to travel to Magnolia, Hargeon City, and see him there. Lucky for her, it would only take a few days at most to get there. Iwa swiftly closed the book and put it back in its original position. She grabbed the bag of survival gear she left by the corner of the library and her armor, just in case, and set out to her destination. Thinking about the upgrades she wanted could be done on the way. It was an slightly cloudy day, but not too cold. The walking was easy and she enjoyed listening to the wind in the trees. Iwa was continually faithful for the location of Blackmist headquarters in the forest, the wild, rather than the city.
She started to wonder what this Lucien guy was like. Of course, it would be bothersome if he tried to talk to her too much and asked her too many questions. The ideal situation would be showing up, telling him what she wanted, getting it done, and then leaving with no other unnecessary interaction and disturbances. Hopefully, nothing outrageous would happen on her way to or from Hargeon City. Just get the upgrades and be done-efficiently and swiftly-so she could be ready for another mission. She stopped for a rest when the sun started to go down and picked the ground for insects and worms to eat. Yeah, others would think it's disgusting, but if it fills your belly, who needs the fancy stuff? The other two days passed relatively the same. Walk, think, eat, sleep-that was it, but that was fine. Her uneventful and peaceful journey could not last forever though. That is the way it always goes.

The goal of Iwamichi's travel was to arrive at Magnolia Town. Magnolia was a bustling merchant city, but it primarily dealt in foodstuffs and luxury items. Weapons and armor were far from a speciality, though there was a blacksmith in town. None of this was a concern for Iwamichi. Her goal was a far seedier place than the town's respectable blacksmith. Her goal was Lucien. Knowledge of his shop was invaluable among those who worked outside the law. Unfortunately for Iwa, she had to walk for four days just to get to Magnolia Town, and it was rather hard to travel that far without running into some kind of inconvenience. In this case the inconvenience came in the form of one of the biggest possible annoyances: a Rune Knight. It could have been a lot worse: they normally patrolled in groups. It also could've been easier. The Rune Knight was wearing his powered exo-suit. These base models weren't very good, but they did provide full-body heavy armor at the very least. Because of this full-body coverage, the low-ranking Rune Knights appeared to be automatons to most. Their pure white forms always shone with a complete absence of identifiable features. The only variance from one Rune Knight to the next was a number stamped over their heart. Beyond that, the specific attributes of a given Rune Knight varied quite a bit. Some of these low level ones could use crude magic, but most were just fighters skilled in some discipline or another. Their armaments were standardized: a rifle, a shield, and two back-mounted swords. {Reference Image for Rune Knights} [img src="http://www.wallsave.com/wallpapers/1280x1280/gundam-unicorn/219924/gundam-unicorn-dynasty-warriors-e-galleries-joystiq-219924.jpg" alt="[Reference Image for Rune Knights]"] This encounter happened while Iwamichi was only an hour's walk away from Magnolia. It was late afternoon, just before sunset. The lone Rune Knight approached Iwa as she walked down the road. His posture was relaxed, possibly even a bit bored. Once he was within a conversational distance he spoke; his voice was robotic and monotonous. “Pardon me ma'am, but I'm under orders to investigate all travellers on this road. We had an assault and robbery around here only a few hours ago so we're making sure no other suspicious characters get near Magnolia. If you would be so kind as to empty your pockets and explain your reason for visiting Magnolia Town, that would make this all much easier for both of us.”((Stats will be posted for the Rune Knight only if you choose to attack him.))

She was only just an hour's walk away when Iwa was confronted with an annoying problem. A Rune Knight stopped her short on her journey to Magnolia Town, saying that he had to search her and know her reason for traveling to the town. The man was heavily armored and carried a sturdy shield, a rifle, and swords. If she was in the mood, she could attack this guy and be quickly on her way. However, if a Rune Knight was here, then many more would be too. She couldn't carelessly attack a Rune Knight and think she'd get away with it. They certainly were pesky enemies. After assessing the situation, she took out the sack of money in her pocket and the whip at her side. She also showed him her bag of supplies over her shoulder.
It was vital that she chose her words carefully. If she made a mistake, the knight would not let her pass, maybe arrest her. Then again, she hadn't done anything wrong. Of course there had to be a robbery right before I get into town. If I catch that robber I might fry his brains out. No, that is unnecessary. It has nothing to do with me. I have to focus on what I'm going to do. Iwa cleared her throat and flashed the Rune Knight a tired and sympathetic smile. She had to act charming, although that made her feel pretty sick. For someone who never shows her emotions, she knew pretty well how to act the part. It could be dangerous, though. If it looked too fake, then the guard certainly wouldn't accept the story. Iwa made a note in the back of her head to practice something like this once in a while.
"That really is terrible sir, I'm sorry to hear of this incident. I will be glad to cooperate and make things easier. I don't have much with me. You see, I was on my way to purchase some supplies. Things have become increasingly dangerous in my village, so I decided I needed better armor and weapons to protect myself and my family. I bought a bag full of survival gear earlier, in another town so I could be prepared for anything. Also, I have this whip, but I don't think it is enough. I plan to get the supplies and weapons I need and go. If there was a robbery not too long ago, are these roads safe? Can I get to Magnolia Town safely this way?"
Iwa asked the Rune Knight this question to sound more innocent. From her observations of many people, she knew how men thought, especially kinds like these, so she decided to play to his manly side and play the weak girl card. She kept the honeyed smile plastered on her face and a small look of hope in her eye. Maybe he would take pity on her and let her go. The most important thing though, was that he bought her tale and was not suspicious of her true intentions. Everything was riding on his answer: if things did not go well, she would probably have to go to plan B, a fight. That was definitely not her desired option because she did not want to make enemies of these people. Not yet. So, before that, she was going to pull out all the stops.

The Rune Knight was immediately skeptical regarding Iwa’s story. Her claim that she was from a small village nearby had a number of holes in it. First and foremost, her outfit was way too nice to belong to most villages. Smaller settlements were usually poor, and Iwa’s attire didn’t look like the kind of stuff that would be found on a peasant farmer. The whip was the second hole in her story. If she had bought a weapon for defense, why would she have a whip of all things? It was the type of weapon that only a trained fighter could use with any degree of effectiveness. A broadsword would make more sense for a random villager. On top of this there was the biggest problem with the story. If the village was truly in danger, why would they send a seemingly innocent girl to ensure their defense? Nothing about this story added up.
All in all, the situation wasn’t off to a good start for Iwa. The posture of the Rune Knight clearly showed he wasn’t buying it. His arms were crossed over his chest and there was a certain tension emanating from him. Iwa might even notice that his helmet almost seemed to frown a bit. A sigh left the Rune Knight’s mouth. He had no evidence of foul play, but he knew something was up. Sadly, he was a private. The single black bar under the ID number on his chest indicated as much. He didn’t have the authority to detain this woman just on suspicion of telling an unlikely story. He had no choice but to play along.
“Alright ma’am. Your story is a bit weird, but so are most people’s. If you’re that worried about safety, I’ll escort you to your destination. The Rune Knights exist to protect the people after all.” The voice that emanated from the Rune Knight sounded electrical and semi-robotic. If Iwa was familiar with speakers, she would likely realize that she was hearing the man inside’s voice through such a device. Granted, since she was wild, she might never have encountered such a device. This meant something very important thought. Iwa only heard what the Rune Knight wanted her to hear. What she didn’t hear was a radio message back to the Rune Knight Outpost in Magnolia Town. “Control, this is RK00045489. I’ve stopped a suspicious woman. She’s about five-foot-eight, maybe a buck forty. She looks like a secretary, but she’s got an eye patch, a whip, and light blue hair. Any record of outstanding warrants on someone like that?”
The message back from HQ was only heard by the Rune Knight. “Negative on a warrant for anyone even somewhat like that. The closest I’ve got for you is a fake nun with the same hair color.” Since there was no outstanding warrant for Iwamichi’s capture as of yet, there was absolutely nothing the Rune Knight could do unless she committed a crime right in front of him. Knowing this, the armored man motioned for Iwa to follow him. “Let’s get a move on then ma’am. It’s only a few miles this way.” Should Iwa go with him, the trip would go uneventfully.
Assuming that this was the case, they would arrive at Lucien’s shop in just over an hour. At that point, the guard would leave her. The shop itself looked like it was pretty run-down, but there was a brand-new bright-white sign with black lettering hanging out front that read “Lucien’s Rare Finds.” Should Iwa venture inside, she would likely become confused rapidly. The inside of the shop was several times larger than the outside, and that was just the first room. The walls were a dark maple; the floors and ceiling were also made of this wood. Instead of magical items all over like one would expect in a store, this room was rather bare. The walls were lined with doors every few feet, gray suits of armor stood in each of the square room’s four corners, and a maple counter closed off the back portion. The layout was odd to say the least.
Behind the counter was the only other occupant of the store. The details of this individual were distinctly hard to make out. They wore a black hooded cloak that seemed to flow as if there was a constant breeze in the room. This cloak seemed to defy every law of physics that one could think of. It flowed like water in random directions, yet it still maintained its shape at all times. Almost immediately after Iwa entered the store, the cloaked figure had begun to speak, “Welcome to my shop traveller. I ask no questions about your coins if you ask no questions about where my goods come from. Is there something you’re looking for today, and do you have a budget in mind?”

Iwa had tried to smooth things over, but maybe her story had not worked as effectively as she thought. Unfortunately, she thought of that after the fact. What is WRONG with you? That story makes no sense at all. Look at you, do you look like someone from a small, rundown village? Do you look like a defenseless, helpless woman with this type of weapon? You pride yourself on your cunning, so where did that go? Worthless, you better make up for this somehow or you can't call yourself smarter than an ape. The Rune Knight didn't look to be too pleased with her explanation himself. His arms were crossed, and she could sense a frown under his helmet. She was going to have to punish herself more severely once she got back home. Although the Rune Knight looked very displeased and suspicious, he told her he would escort her into town because that was his job.
She was going to have to live with this situation for now. There was also an unnerving sense of danger crawling up the back of her neck. Something was not right, but she could not tell what exactly it was. After her failed attempt at using her words, she decided that it really was for the best to keep her mouth shut unless completely necessary. The feeling of danger would not go away. The guard eventually left her once they reached town, but she did not go to Lucien's store right away. The knight could be following her or watching her somehow. Possibly, he had informed others about this mysterious girl with a wacky tale. Therefore, it was important that she looked the part to any hostile eyes. She was not going to make another stupid mistake like last time. Plus, she needed to practice and and prepare for more situations like this.
She visited the local market in the bustling part of town. Although she absolutely hated crowds, cities, and lots of people, she thought it would be easier to blend in. It had been made clear that she had more money than someone from a small village near the town would usually have. Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do about that. Still, she had to stick as close to that story as possible. She hung around the cheaper stalls with cheaper armor pieces and weapons. Picking up an old scimitar, she turned it over and over and compared it with her whip. She swung the scimitar around at invisible enemies, clumsily and ineffectively. Turning back to her whip, she gave it a poor crack. In fact, it didn't hive a crack. It looked as if she had not mastered the whip, but was still trying to.
With a disappointed and saddened look, she turned away from the star and put the scimitar back. She looked through more stalls and even bought a set of five shuriken at one. These, she quickly concealed in an empty sack in her traveler pack. She strung this pack loosely around her waist and made sure she could easily access the shuriken if she got into a battle. Now, she wondered if anyone could still be watching her. Ducking down beneath the massive swarm of heads and bodies, she ran towards Lucien's store. On the outside, it looked ordinary, but the inside made her speechless. It was.... was.... bigger on the inside!? Iwa was definitely not used to something like this, always living in quiet, wild places. A shadowy figure in a cloak in the shop spoke to her. He had an aura about him that she liked. He was mysterious and seemed dwarfed by the size and power of the room.
Abruptly awakened from her trance of awe, she quickly turned to the shopkeeper. "Right, well, I came here to get my gear upgraded. I hear that you are the best at doing that." She unfastened the whip held at her side, and handed it to him. "It's a magical item, I am a mage after all. I am c-class now, so I wish to get this whip to c-class as well. I hope that it's capacity to conduct electricity and create small fires can be enhanced. So, how much would that cost?" Iwa waited for the man to look over her prized weapon and take in what she had said. She probably had plenty of money to pay this guy the price that he set. After all, it was only a d-class weapon right now. After being so focused on an invisible danger she could sense but not see, she hoped that now she could get what she had come for peacefully.

((500 Jewels deducted for the purchase of the five Shuriken. 13075-500=12575))
Iwa’s compliment had a noteworthy effect on Lucien. By stating that he was the best at upgrading items, Iwa was speaking the truth. The cloak itself seemed to smirk a bit. Iwa was getting right down to business, and it was obvious that Lucien liked that. The cloak flowed outwards from its spot behind the counter to envelop the whip. It vanished into the flowing folds of what Iwa could only hope was black fabric. “Hmm…” The cloaked figure was noticeably puzzled. Clearly something was bothering him about the task that had been given to him. This probably boded poorly for the young woman’s pocketbook.
"This is a very interesting weapon you’ve got here. It combines magical and physical properties flawlessly, but it doesn’t have a ton of room to be improved. If I keep it as a C-class item so you can handle it, there’s not much I can do in terms of upgrading the elemental properties of it. It’s already using an enchantment to light itself aflame, so it’s not like I could put another spell on it. I also don’t really see a great way to improve the spell that’s already on there. Making it do anything other than alter the element of the whip would be a completely different spell, and it would have to lose this current one.
I could rip that spell off and throw a basic fireball spell on there pretty easily, but I don’t think that’s what you’re after. All I could really do for you at this point is improve the quality of whip itself. It would be better at penetrating armor by a decent margin. That’d run you about 6,500 Jewels. Beyond that, I’m not sure there’s much that can be done unless you give me the go-ahead to make a complete overhaul on this whip. If you’re not a fan of that, I could also just sell you something completely different if you want… I’ve got plenty of merchandise after all.”

Iwamichi listened quietly to the master's analysis of her weapon. She came all this way to get the whip upgraded, but now he was telling her that not much could be done. He did tell her that he could give her whip a new move. She could definitely take his suggestion and get her whip to inflict fire damage as well as lightning damage. That interested her, but it might take a lot of her savings. After she bought the shuriken, she had only 12,575 jewels. If she took the other option, she would end up spending half of her money on an increase in armor-piercing margin. That could be helpful, but she wasn't sure she wanted to spend all that money. Still, she expected to go on another mission soon (probably with that other guy) and the money would definitely go to good use. She looked at the dark cloaked man again and decided what she should do.
"Well, I guess if you can't do anything else with the spells already on it, then it doesn't really matter. I'm sure you have some wonderful merchandise here to sell, but I'd like to keep my whip. I think it's the best for my type of skills. So, I would actually like to get that fireball spell. Of course, I would like to do some damage with both elements with this whip. Lastly, I would like the spell at c-class. I'm sure it won't take that long, so I'll wait here." She kept everything short and to the point and passed the necessary amount of jewels to him across the counter. Iwa bent her head a little to show her thanks and proceeded to walk to a corner of the room, or where she figured it would be. The place was so big she might as well go exploring. After she collected her improved whip, she would finally set off back to the mansion. Then, it would be off to get more jobs, and more money.

“ As long as the customer has money, the customer is always right.”Lucien's cloak proceeded to flow out a few feet and deposited Iwa's whip back on the counter. It looked exactly the same, but it's properties had been altered considerably. Now, if Iwa sent a surge of power into the whip, into would shoot a fireball roughly the size of a pumpkin. This upgrade had been completed in the blink of an eye, before Iwa had even managed to make it to the corner of the room.“Your whip is finished, and I'd appreciate if you didn't poke around too much. Every door has a price on it, and you aren't getting past them unless you've got enough Jewels to afford the merchandise inside. Given how light your bag sounds... I don't think you're ready to visit any of those other rooms yet. That aside, your total will come to the same 6,500 Jewels I quoted you earlier.Consider swapping out the spell to be a free favor for a first-time customer.”
Item Name:Thunder Whip Class: C Price:9,000 Jewels Physical Appearance:The Thunder whip is made up of copper with a leather handle for ease and comfort in use.It has a yellow thunderbolt design on the handle. ((This is an easy thread.
Iwamichi wrote 15 paragraphs times 25 exp per paragraph. 375 EXP Total. You wrote just as much as Kyomei did, and this amuses me greatly.
I only wrote 13 for this one times 25 exp per paragraph is 325, times 2 for the conversion to jewels is 750 jewels.))
