A special request came into the Job Board by way of the magical fairy that puts them there, i.e. the Task Master. It was a BlackMist-eyes only quest, which either meant that the contractor knew someone in the guild personally or it was a particularly dastardly job. It, to the enjoyment of Aro, was the latter. A group of thugs or ruffians or something wanted protection money out of a village, and then had been denied that money. Obviously the protection of the village would cease without pay, and would reverse to be an offensive attack. Aro quickly ripped the poster off of the wall, delighting in the chance to burn the entire place down. What would be the best way to do it... Stealthily by spreading the oil in patches where people didn't see, or using his Air Make: Jet Stream as a force for a flamethrower of oil. Whether by stealth or by force, Aro would want the company of his former partner Iwamichi for this one, and immediately sought her out. {Stats} Strength:15 Encumbrance/Lifting Strength:75 Speed:16 Mental Reaction Speed:18 Soul:20 HP:175 Stamina:38 Senses:33

Iwa had just come back from her trip from town and was feeling pretty lethargic. Maybe not lethargic, but at least more apathetic than usual. Everything was moving at a snail's pace, and she felt like the world could actually stop turning right then and there. She collapsed in her usual corner of the library. The window was small enough to let her watch anyone passing by, but not big enough to let the sun blind her. Grabbing a random book from the shelf, she started to flip through its pages. It spoke to her about the customs and lives of people in a time long ago. That interested her until exhaustion won took over and made her drop the book. Sleep felt wonderful, especially on a terribly uneventful day like this. Half of her wanted to stay there in the comfort of the books, but the other half craved wild entertainment, somewhere out away from the city... She was awoken from the sense of a familiar presence. That, and all of a sudden the library had become more lively. People were silently snickering at something that had just entered and there were whispers like, "TWICE? In one week? This is something... Frankly, these kinds of people were extremely irritating, but she had a good guess to what the commotion was about. She remained in her seat and watched the familiar figure approach. He snarled, but she wasn't sure if that was just his normal method of greeting or if he was upset by all the eyes that were fixated on him. Iwamichi slowly rose out of her chair and cracked the bones in her shoulders. She was usually glad when there was something to occupy her time, unless there was too much work involved of course. So, what kind of job was he going to drag her on this time? "I assume you came here for help on another job. Well, I'm always ready to go. I hope this one is more enjoyable. Not that I'm complaining about the other one, but something so simple won't help me... us, hone our skills." She paused by cracking her knuckles. He held up the description for her to see and Iwa almost broke out in a smile (that was dangerous). Wonderful, they got a special job to go blow something up. This day just got a whole lot better. Iwa still had her stuff with her from her last trip, so she quickly slipped into her armor and slung her pack over her shoulders, ready to go. Her companion took the lead again, like always and they embarked on their quest. If he said something, that was his choice, but she would only reply if she felt that it was actually necessary. Another job had started at last. {Spoiler} Traits:Trait Name | Rank | Type of Trait | Total Point Cost | Unending Endurance | 1 | Body | 10 | Martial Knowledge: Whip | 1 | Mind | 10 | Wilderness Survival | 3* | Mind | 10 | Wilderness Tracking | 1* | Mind | 0 | Heterosexual | 1 | Personality | 5 | Brave | 1 | Personality | 5 | Studious | 1 | Personality | 10 | Stubborn | 2 | Personality | 10 | Docile | 1 | Personality | 10 | Serious | 1 | Personality | 10 | Traveller | 2 | Personality | 10 | Energetic | 2 | Personality | 10 | Masochist | 2 | Personality | 10 | Wild | 1 | Personality | 10 |

The job that Iwa and Aro had received was indeed a special one. A single reading of the poster would have warranted only a few base details. These were the things Iwamichi had told Aro about the job. The fine print on the contract held a great deal more information about the assignment. Of all the details that were written in the fine print, a single one stood out. This assignment was to burn down a village by the name of Greenhill. Some background information was included about this village. It was located right in the middle of Fiore's southeastern desert. It was at the narrowest point of the desert; one could reach grasslands in only a day's walk from Greenhill. The village had gotten its name from the fact that it was one of the only oases in all the desert, and it sat up on a large hill.
If the terrain was all gentle, it would only be around a four day walk for the members of Blackmist. Unfortunately, their progress through the desert would be much slower than desired. This would increase the time it would take them to reach Greenhill by another day, bringing the total to five days. Even more irritating would be the lack of vegitation and water in the desert. Aro and Iwa would not be able to forage successfully in such unforgiving terrain, and their wilderness skills meant they knew that in advance. If they wanted to arrive at Greenhill in peak condition, they would need to pack two days worth of food and drink. Foraging in the grasslands on the way would be easy enough. When they were done with the job, they were to light the contract itself aflame, and the client would appear with their reward.
The last piece of information offered by the contract was a diagram of Greenhill. The layout of the town was definitely worth mentioning, so it's a good thing that the contract had these details. The village's housing was constructed in a circle around the top of the hill. Most of the houses were made of mud-bricks, but some were wooden. While the wooden houses would be easier to destroy, the mud-brick huts would turn into ovens if lit aflame, burning anyone inside beyond recognition. The hills were covered in fields of clover, which made good feed for the livestock. Further down, once the hill flattened out, there were grains grown all the way out to the edge of the grass. There were a few huts down there as well, but they were marked as storage. Most telling about this diagram was that there were no areas marked for a Rune Knight Garrison. That piece of information would be of vital importance.

Iwa and Aro would examine the map together, discovering how far they would have to go and the preparations that they would have to make. Aro and Iwa both had backpacks with enough space for foraged food, and they had waterskins, but was a single waterskin each good enough for at least two days worth of water? Probably not, so they'd need to pick up some more along the way. Food wouldn't be an issue, as they had discovered earlier they were both expert foragers, and the backpacks that they owned would carry plenty of food as they traveled across the desert. Just in case, though, the two should take some ready to eat meals or other such food before they hit the desert. Packing up their armor and weaponry, the two set out through the forest on their way to Greenhill. The apparent lack of Rune Guardians would help their mission go a bit more smoothly, as well as prevent them from gathering too much infamy, especially if there were no survivors. However, maps sometimes were wrong.

It took longer than Iwamichi had wanted to get started on their journey, but it had to be done. Because they could not rely on their foraging skills to get all the water and food they needed for the upcoming trip, they had to prepare extra meals and extra containers of water ahead of time. If only the terrain was easier and more hospitable. It couldn't be changed though, so she just had to deal with it. Both Iwa and the other guy had looked over the map they had received very carefully. Apparently, there were no Rune Knight outposts, but this did not lower her guard. These days, the lack of a Rune Knight outpost was rare and practically unheard of. They always found a way to stick their noses into every village and every country like cockroaches (and like cockroaches, they never completely die). She knew she had to be extra cautious during this mission and prepare for the worst. She didn't want to be put on any Rune Knight's radar; she already had a close call with one before, and if she had another one, it could be a lot worse if she became too infamous.

This job would be the first real test of Iwa and Aro’s ability to get things done. Their first task had been simple, but every aspect of this job would be a bit of a challenge. Even the travel would be more than they were used to. In order to survive crossing the desert on the way to Greenhill, they needed to pick up more waterskins, and had decided some ready-made food would be a good choice as well. The nearest village was Rogbin, and these dark mages would be more than familiar with it. Rogbin was the village a day away that they had just helped with the Rammarus problem. While they certainly didn’t have much, there was a general store there that would have the provisions this pair needed. A day of travel took Aro and Iwa to Rogbin, where they were welcomed back with open arms. They had arrived early in the evening, only because they were better at travelling long distances than most. The journey there had been uneventful, but that did not mean the remainder of it would be easy as well. Before the duo could continue on their way, they needed to stop by the general store and catch some sleep. Luckily, in a rural village like this, the general store was open on demand since it doubled as the caretaker’s house. The store easily stood out in this village. It was five times the size of the surrounding houses, and was made of neatly stacked logs. It actually looked like it was built by a professional. The duo ventured inside, and everything felt… wrong. Both Aro and Iwa could’ve sworn this shop wasn’t here last time, and there was no way it was built that quickly. Furthermore they knew they hadn’t seen the man behind the counter last time. He didn’t even look like he belonged in this village. Shoulder length silver hair hung down the sides of this man’s face, stopping a few inches above his jawline. His eyes seemed almost invisible, for they were the same shade as his hair, and hidden behind it to boot. This man’s attire was off as well. He wore a light brown vest over a black shirt and pants, all looking pristine. By comparison, the natives looked like cavemen. Perhaps this man was a travelling merchant of some sort? He obviously wasn’t a local, but it wasn’t clear what his purpose here was. {Shopkeeper Reference Image} “Can I help you?” he enquired. “Perhaps you need to purchase some supplies for a journey ahead? Yes… yes… I’m sensing that you need waterskins and some trail food. You can find that over on that wall,” he said, pointing to the northern wall of the shop. If Aro and Iwa hadn’t gotten a strange feeling yet, they definitely had one now. When the man had paused, their minds would have felt a slight tugging sensation, as if some information was ripped out of them. It wasn’t particularly pleasant, but it was a small enough sensation that they might just mistake it for a slight headache. Whether they investigated their suspicions or not was yet to be determined. This could either be nothing more than a lucky guess from the shopkeeper, or something more sinister could be afoot.

Well, since both Iwamichi and her companion had only one water skin each and a couple of already made meals, they decided to stop by a nearby village and purchase supplies for their long journey ahead. Coincidentally, it seemed that they chose the same village that they completed their first D-rank mission in to be their stopping place. The people welcomed them enthusiastically. Iwa barely gave most of them a passing glance. They had to find their local general store and get supplies, nothing more. It was important to keep their focus on the task ahead. When they stopped in front of the general store, it took her by surprise. It was incredibly large for such a small and shabby village, not to mention neat and well-built. Her surprise quickly turned to suspicion; however, they needed supplies and apparently, this was their only choice.
After they strolled inside the out-of-place store, they were confronted by an equally interesting shopkeeper. He really did not look like one of the villagers. So, who was he? And what was his shop? It definitely had not been here on their first journey... On another disturbing note, he suddenly knew what it was that they wanted and about their journey. It COULD be just a guess or because they probably looked like travellers with a specific purpose or journey, but she didn't think so. His presence troubled her immensely. Then, there was also a tugging feeling on her mind, literally. She wasn't going to believe that this "headache" was just a coincidence either. What could she do about it though? If they left, they might miss something extremely important. Or, she could totally be overthinking the whole situation and the shopkeeper was just guessing. Either way, Iwa was feeling very annoyed and didn’t bother to say anything when they purchased the items they needed. She made a mental note that if she ever saw this guy again she was certainly going to kill him. Not out of anger or anything, but because she didn’t believe in coincidences, and she wasn’t going to take any chances with a man as mysterious as he.

Rogbin wasn't a far off location from the path to Greenhill, it was basically a pit stop on the most direct route to the job site, so Aro and Iwamichi decided to stop by for the supplies they needed. It wouldn't hurt to be going to a place where they were already welcome and considered as trustworthy people. Trust was a dangerous thing in the hand of a Dark Wizard, by which they twisted the minds of others and corrupted them. When a being that is looked upon as good and just suddenly is revealed to be destructive and evil, some are turned away, but many who already revered the being become an entity that is far greater and more powerful than simple fans or admirers. Cultists. Cultists were formed when the mighty and stalwart were shown to be of ill repute, further spreading the influence of the Dark figure beyond what can be done alone. With Armies are wars won, not single heroes or villains. For this reason, Aro kept up the deception of his good nature to the people of Rogbin.
The two Dark Magicians from BlackMist entered the small run down village, and immediately noticed something that was off. There was a much larger, quite well-to-do building set up just outside of town. It was a very nice, professional looking building which clearly contrasted the run down mud buildings of Rogbin. As the sun had already set, the pair of Wizards needed a place to stay, and this Inn/General Store would be the place to do so. As they walked in, it would be immediately obvious that the shopkeeper was distant from the rest of the village. Not only had he not been around when they were plagued with Rammarus, but he was dressed as though he owned the place. His shoes alone were probably worth more than the rest of the Village combined, though that might be an overstatement. Pure and simple, he was far too wealthy to be hanging out here where the people couldn't supply him with business. Rogbin wasn't even that close to any major road ways, so it couldn't very well be a tourist trap.
As the shopkeeper addressed them, there was a pain in the pair's cranial cavity followed by the man knowing exactly what they were at the shop for, waterskins and travel rations. It was too much of a coincidence to ignore. Something had been forcibly ripped from them, probably memories or thoughts. It didn't take a genius to figure that out, easily a high schooler could figure it out, and Aro was nearing a university student's aptitude of mental prowess, though he was still lagging behind Iwamichi in that department. With a growl, Aro spoke. "You could've just asked us what we wanted... Give us two waterskins, three days worth of granola, and a bed for the night. Then you can forget having repeat customers in us after we're gone."

((I’m assuming these are total amounts of purchases between the two of you since it wasn’t specified. Waterskins are 100 a pop, and granola is another 100 a pop. If you can clear up whether you were specifying total numbers, or numbers per person, I can go ahead and charge you for it.))
The clerk was humble and apologetic regarding the rudeness of his methods. “Please, please, forgive my intrusion. It’s the fastest way to know whether or not people so scary plan me any harm. Your stay overnight is free as my way of apologizing for the less than comfortable technique.” Both Aro and Iwa were aware their minds had been invaded, and they were absolutely correct. Even if they hadn’t figured it out before, the man had just confessed. However, they did not realize the full extent of the mental attack. At first, they had thought all that was taken from them was knowledge of what they wanted to purchase, but soon afterwards they would realize much more had happened.
The two mages ventured upstairs to the room that had been offered to them and eventually drifted off to bed. Once asleep, they both entered into the same dream. It was easily the most vivid dream they had ever experienced. All of their senses worked normally, and there were none of the usual signs they were in a dream. The laws of physics still applied, books still had content, and their memory functioned normally. The only way that it became obvious they were dreaming was that this dreamworld had returned them to Blackmist’s guild hall. At first glance, everything there was perfectly normal, but one key difference stuck out: the Blackmist mages were not alone.
Everywhere their eyes could see, Rune Knights battled with their guildmates. What’s more, they were losing. Badly. They could fight if they wished, but the situation was clearly hopeless. The Rune Knight foot soldiers appeared to be infinite, and there were clearly some more powerful Rune Knights out in force. Most of these mages were mere blurs, for neither Iwa or Aro knew their faces, yet there was one whose face was perfectly clear. It was none other than the shopkeeper who they had met only moments ago. He smiled at them, and with a voice a thousand times calmer and more malevolent than before he spoke but two simple words that sent a chill down the spines of the dreamers. “We’re coming.”
As soon as those words left this man’s mouth, the dream faded into nothingness. The two mages awoke, and several things immediately seemed wrong. First of all, the content of that dream couldn’t be taken lightly, especially after they were aware their minds had been probed. Secondly, that dream had lasted only moments, yet the sun was already rising. Lastly, the building that Aro and Iwa had rested in was simply gone. They had awoken lying in the mud where the building had once been. All their possessions were intact; nothing but the building was missing. At this point, they could either attempt to investigate what had just happened, or they could simply continue on to their job of burning down Greenhill.

Iwa knew that something was horribly suspicious the moment they stepped into the mysterious store, but she didn't expect this turn of events to happen. "it just goes to show you what you get when you take lodging from weird strangers in weird stores/inns that magically appear out of nowhere and have creepy and nosy shopkeepers," she muttered. She and her companion had woken up from an unsettling dream at the same time and had been transported right in the middle of a pile of mud. There was absolutely no way that she or he could track that fiend or know whatever that dream they had could mean. "Although it might be interesting to try and investigate this further, I don't think we could actually do anything at present. Besides, we have a mission to carry out and we shouldn't get sidetracked. We should keep this incident in our thoughts as well and investigate this after we finish the job. Any potential threat to our guild must be dealt with, and it will be in time. Let's take our provisions and go." She assumed that the other guy would agree with her, but if he did raise any objections, she'd have to rationalize everything again and that would be too much of a drag. Hoping that it would discourage further discussion, she picked up all their supplies and got ready to continue towards their destination.
