((This thread picks up at the end of “No, it’s my job!”))
“Yeah, it is a bit cliché. You’re probably right. Knowing bandits, their camp can’t be more than a day’s walk in the direction they ran off to. We can just fill the Rune Knights in and that should be fine.” The lightning dragon slayer’s tone softened as she spoke. Gone were the aggressive mannerisms and harsh tone that had been present until now. What was left was an interesting sight to behold. Her face had a few flecks of blood on it – shooting someone point blank tends to do that -- but she bore a gentle smile nonetheless. Her posture was less tense, but still not fully relaxed. The adrenaline of the situation still hadn’t worn off fully.
“Don’t sweat the help. These people needed it, so I came to give them a hand. I’m not very special myself though. To be honest, I’m still getting the hang of all this. Master Brennius is something else though. If he was here, the bandits would’ve been dealt with in a matter of seconds, and none of them would’ve gotten away. I’ve got a long way to go still.” She admitted that much aloud, but she was much harsher on herself in her mind. It was unacceptable that so many of the bandits escaped. Beyond that, saying she was “still getting the hang of this” was a complete understatement. Razia was a complete novice when it came to using magic. Sure, she could produce the Aura of the Lightning Dragon, but her training with Yildrim was still in the early stages. Asking her to do anything more than make a few sparks was asking too much.
The angel listened as Ray spoke some more, and was highly amused by some of the assumptions he made. Razia had received basically zero training from Angel Wing. Her martial arts knowledge was picked up on the streets, and her tiny magic spark came from Yildrim, the Lightning Dragon. Razia was intending to go grab the reward, but she figured that could wait for a bit. The village wasn’t going anywhere. “Well, I’ll stay and help you dig the graves, but we’re going to need three, not two. I shot another one when I first walked out of the hut.” The lightning dragon slayer walked over to the hut that Ray was leaning on and grabbed a second shovel that was sitting on the ground. She headed out a bit from the center of town and started digging a hole.
Gravedigging wasn’t exactly fun, but it needed to be done. It would also give Razia plenty of time to get to know this man. Between each strike of the spade into the earth, Razia continued talking to Raygin. “The guild is nice and all, but most of what I know I picked up elsewhere. I lived most of my life on the streets, and you have to learn how to survive when no one is providing food for you. By the way, I don't think I ever properly introduced myself to you. The name's Razia Brasima, of Angel Wing. What do they call you stranger?"

Ray had truly forgotten about the third body. He was the bandit that Razia had taken care of just before the fight. A third body meant a third hole which meant it was going to take just a bit longer than originally planned to finish this errand. But ah well. Ray didn’t want to leave these bodies out to rot and he doubted the villagers would bury the men who tormented them. As Ray dug he blinked when Razia began to help as he listened to her speak. She spoke about a man named Brennius who would have taken care of all the bandits in a matter of seconds. Ray was unsure if Razia was fibbing or she was being completely serious.
Razia informed Ray that she had not been trained by her guild but rather out on the streets. Ray was silent as he listened and dug giving Razia his attention and respect to allow her to speak. When Razia formerly introduced herself Ray smiled. ”My name is Raygin….uuh…Aki…Agara…Akamaru I think. I haven’t used my last name in so long I seem to have forgotten it. But I think Akamaru is the one. It’s a pleasure to meet you Razia.” Ray smiled at her with a big grin before he turned his head back to the hole he was digging.
There was small sounds coming from Rays hole and smaller amounts of dirt being flung out. ”Oh right, I think it might be nice to introduce my friend here.” as if on cue Chacha popped up out of the hole and rested on the ledge with his upper body. ”This is Chacha. I saw you staring at him earlier like he was something completely new. According to him he’s is something called a Shakalaka. Something of a tribal wood fairy or something. He hates being called a fairy, so maybe he’s a imp or a goblin not sure. Either way, Shakalakas arnt from this place….this is Fiore right? Sorry, I’ve been to Seven and Bosco and sometimes I forget where I am. But, Shakalaka are apparently not from Fiore, Seven, or Bosco. Chacha asked me to help him find his village to let his parents know he was travelling but we can’t find it.” Ray explained in decent detail. Chacha nodded and walked right up to Razia.
”It is nice to meet you. Chacha is thankful for your help.” Chacha waved to Razia while Ray gave him a suspicious look. Ray had known Chacha long enough to notice abnormalities in his mannerisms and behavior. But Ray pushed it out of his mind. ”I know what you mean when you say you grew up learning how to survive and fend for yourself. Oh believe me…I know.” Ray chuckled. ”I’m something of a wanderer, vagabond, hunter or just a hobo if you wanna go with that. I travel around helping people for money or food or just a place to sleep. Not an easy life but it’s a good life.” Ray said as he chucked some dirt out of his know knee deep hole.
”It’s a cool life! Ray and Chacha get to explore everywhere! We’ve seen trees growing out of trees! Water that flows INTO the air like…not up a rock but actually up into the air. Floating crystals, living rock, floating islands, deserts, mountains covered in snow!” Chacha exclaimed to Razia. Ray chuckled at how excited Chacha was. Chacha seemed to be enjoying talking to a brand new person which was a good thing since he was just a kid. Ray had left out a few important details about his life since he had just met Razia, plus it seemed Chacha was going to keep a few things hushed up as well. ”Raygin is a great hunter! He can follow trails over a day old! He always brings back food and water when he goes out. But he never does get enough to feed me as much as I deserve.” ”I’ve told you a hundred times Chacha I get what we need. Too much and it weighs us down or goes bad.” Ray said as he lightly bonked Chacha on the head with the back of the shovel.
”Oh wait a second. You mentioned something when you said your name. Angels Wings was it? What’s Angels Wings? Your guild?” Ray asked her with curious eyes. He had heard about guilds and from the dialogue of the bandit leader he knew Razia was a guild mage, but Ray had never really gotten to speak to Guild Mages ABOUT their guilds. He knew next to nothing about guilds aside from names and a few Dark Guilds just to watch out for. Ray had never looked into a Guild since they would just mess up his way of life plus his own personal reasons.

When Razia had spoken of Master Brennius, she caught the disbelieving look that crossed the other man’s face. She ignored it for the time being. It wasn’t like she needed to white knight on Brennius’s behalf after all. He was strong enough that his power spoke for itself. Instead, the angel had just continued on with what she had to say, and started digging up some graves. She listened as the man introduced himself as Raygin Akamaru. The name sounded… foreign. She had never heard of any other Akamarus before, but when you’ve barely left the capital, that’s to be expected. The Lightning Dragon Slayer nodded and gave out a mumbled “You too,” when Raygin had finished his introduction. She never was much of one for formal politeness.
The angel continued listening as Ray spoke, chiming in now and again. “Yeah… a shaka…shakalaka was it? They aren’t something I’ve seen before. Had to figure out if it was a threat or not, and yeah, this is Fiore.” These guys probably had some interesting stories to tell if they had really travelled that much… but this guy might be too much of an airhead to remember them. If he doesn’t even know what country he’s in, or remember his own name, it’d be odd for him to remember good stories. When the imp-goblin-shakamathing walked over, it was quite polite. Unfortunately for him, Razia was a bit preoccupied by digging, and was never a courteous one. “Sure…thing… Shakalacha,” she called out between shovelfuls of dirt, butchering Chacha’s name horribly.
Raygin still had more to say… and Razia was honestly beginning to wonder if he was getting any work done digging. He was talking way too much for someone that should be working hard… but she had to let it slide. The last thing she wanted to do was piss off this guy by being rude, so she held it in. It did definitely sound like this guy had an interesting past though. His tales sounded similar to that of a guild mage, and Razia found it a bit hard to believe that he wasn’t already in a guild. Just as she was thinking thusly, Ray brought up Angel Wing.
“Yup. Angel Wing is my guild… if you can really call us that. I sometimes feel more like we’re vigilantes than an official organization, but we’re not bad guys or anything. Brennius Arosas Amatus is our Guild Master, and he’s impossibly strong. His magic only works on those with an evil heart, but he can take out a thousand bad guys as strong as I am in a single blast.” After remembering Ray’s skeptical look before, she explained a bit more in detail. “He uses Seraphim Magic, the power of angels. He’s been training his magic since he was a kid, and he’s getting old… so he’s had forever to get strong. He’s strong enough that Rune Knights don’t mess with him, even if they don’t agree with him taking out a Dark Mage.
Overall, we’re pretty awesome, but I’m still pretty new there. I only joined a little bit ago, but I’ve liked getting to know people. Honestly, from what you said about your daily life, you sound like you’d fit in pretty well. Angel Wing is just a bunch of us that go around helping people and dealing with bad guys. When you’re not on a mission, you can hang out at the guild hall, but everyone is usually busy with working on jobs. It does mean you can get backup if you’re in over your head though, and it’s nice to be able to rely on people for that…and I’m getting rambly aren’t I?”

”Not at all” Ray responded as he scooped more dirt out. His hole was now up to his waist. Ray had listened silently to what Razia said about both her guild and her master. Perhaps what she said earlier, about Brennius being able to destroy the bandits in seconds, wasn’t so farfetched after all. Ray listened as Razia spoke about her guild and couldn’t help but be a bit curious what it was like to be in the guild. Ray placed his shovel on the earth on the edge of his hole and climbed out as Razia still spoke of her guild. He clapped his hands to get some dirt off his bandages but to no avail. Ray frowned slightly as he walked over to the body of the bandit he had killed.
”You like your guild so you like talking about it no reason to be sorry about it.” Ray said as he got down onto a knee and looked at the man’s body. His armor was way too big for Ray and his left armpit was sliced open and stained red. Ray frowned and grabbed the man’s underarms and began to drag the body towards the hole. ”Muuugh…yeah it does sssound like your guild is something similar to what I dooogh…” Ray forcibly said. The bandits’ size and the weight of his armor made him heavy to drag. Ray wasn’t going to take his armor off since the armor was this man’s not Rays.
Ray brought the man beside his hole and walked to his side. He shook his arms and slid his hands under the mans body and flipped him into the hole. ”Phew. One down.” Ray said with a chuckle as he walked around the grave to his shovel and picked it up. He started to shovel the dirt back into the hole and on top of the bandits body. ”So in your guild everyone is working huh? You don’t get to see each other a lot? I thought guilds were bars or restaurants.” Ray asked Razia as he shoveled more dirt into the grave. Chacha was helping him by scooping up dirt in his arms and dropping it into the grave. ”My name is Chacha not Skalakacha!” Chacha said to Razia as he dropped the dirt in.

Even despite Razia’s rambling, her progress on digging the hole was a bit faster than Ray’s own. They were pretty evenly matched in the strength department, but Razia was a good bit faster than Ray was. It wasn’t a huge difference in time, but the angel was able to roll the corpse of the leader into a hole in the ground a few moments before Ray lowered the other slain man into the ground. The entire process didn’t even really faze her. She was pretty much covered in a layer of dirt from working so fast, but her expression hadn’t changed as a result. If anything, she somehow looked kinder and more feminine like this. Of course, that was because she had finally cracked a smile. Talking about Angel Wing had brought out the best in this tomboy.
As she worked on filling the grave back in, she listened as both Ray and Chacha spoke. She addressed the Shakalaka first. “Right, right, sorry Chalaka.” She wasn’t getting the name wrong on purpose, but she just didn’t really care about the little creature. It wasn’t a human, and so her respect for it was generally a bit low. Humans are what really matter, and pretty much anything else is just food… except dragons. Dragons are closer to gods than anything else. Whatever this Shakalaka was, it wasn’t on par with a dragon, nor did it appear to be on par with a human. To Razia’s brain, that meant he probably came closer to the level of food.
“Everyone stays pretty busy in Angel Wing. We get more job requests than we can really handle at our current size, so it’s pretty rare to run into someone at the guild hall. I know some other guilds act more like a social club than a force for good, but we’re not like that. Angel Wing is more concerned with getting out and doing good than staying inside and getting fat. The Rune Knights do a decent job of keeping the cities and towns pretty safe, but the wilderness and small villages often get forgotten. Beyond that, sometimes there are problems that you just can’t really deal with inside of the law. The Rune Knights need evidence and approval before they move. We move as soon as we have a job request or we see the problem. We fix the problems that the Rune Knights won’t. That’s what Angel Wing is all about. If you think that sounds like something you’re interested in, then you should come meet Master Brennius some time. He can answer questions better than I can.”

As Razia spoke Ray had taken it upon himself to begin the third grave. This meant that Razias part of the job was done. Ray listened between the sounds of dirt being dug away. Razia did have a point, Angel Wing did in fact do quite a few things that Ray did himself, from the sound of it. As he began to expand the hole he chuckled and said ”It does sound interesting. I do wanna think about it. Joining a Guild isn’t exactly something I always intended to do. I always thought they would interfere with the goals I had set. I don’t mean anything malicious no no nothing evil or criminal but I just have a few goals in my life that I need to accomplish and I always figured a Guild would just slow that down.” Ray told Razia.
Raygin had just met Razia, and although he sorta trusted her after fighting alongside her, he felt he did not know her well enough yet to actually tell her his goals. With a grunt Ray shoved the shovel into the earth and pulled away a large chunk of dirt. His second grave was nearing completion. The bandages covering his arms were tearing around his hands and just covered in grime. They looked as though they were just getting in the way, so why was Ray not removing them? Chacha grunted as he removed more dirt from the hole as well as trying to avoid the shovels head. The Shakalaka was dirty as well. He looked up at Ray and asked ”Why are we burying these guys? They were cruel to the villagers.” ”Because it’s the right thing to do Chacha. What kind of people will we be if we leave the ones whose lives we ended just baking in the sun?” Ray responded to the small imp.
Once the hole was dug Ray stuck the shovel head into the ground and stepped out of the grave. He walked over to the last body of the bandit. Ray inspected the man and sighed with some relief at the fact he was smaller than the last two. He got down on one knee and picked the corpse up with a grunt and carried him back over to the hole. ”Move Chacha!” Ray ordered since the Shakalaka was still in the grave. With a slight yip of surprise, Chacha quickly clambered out of the hole as Ray dropped the body in. ”Just gotta fill the hole in then we get our money, right Raygin?” Chacha asked to which Ray simply nodded.
The young man grabbed the shovel yet again and began to fill in the grave. ”Sometime soon, I don’t know when, when I am in the area of Angel Wing I will be sure to check the place out and ask your Guild Master some questions. Though to be fair, I haven’t really any idea if Guilds offer missions that my particular skills are good at.” Ray chuckled to himself as he patted some of the dirt down to smooth it. ”Wait, where IS Angel Wing anyways?” Ray asked as he turned to Razia with a bit of a confused smile.
