For those or you familiar with D&D, we basically merged feats and skills into one thing. If you understand what that means, you can skip the intro. The trait system was engineered with a couple different purposes in mind. The main purpose or the trait system was to give characters more versatility than the stats normally allow. The stats are important benchmarks, but not every character is exactly the same, despite having similar levels or fitness (or, in this case, the same body stat). In the show, we see some characters that are faster than others, and some that are stronger than others. Elfmann, during the grand magic games arc, has hilariously giant muscles, but isn't incredibly fast. Using just a single stat, body, doesn't allow for things like this. We could just separate the stats, but then min-maxing becomes far too easy.
But the above issue is not the only reason for the trait system. There are other things that characters can do that are in no way, shape, or form, accounted for simply by stats. Characters can be knowledgeable about certain topics, or be trained in various martial arts. Others may have reaction times that are far better than their analytic ability. Perhaps you want your character to be a trained healer, but not have healing magic. The possibilities are basically endless for traits you want your character to have.
A number or questions are brought up in freestyle roleplays that the trait system aims to answer. These main question that made us decide on using a trait system is taken from an old debate that experienced roleplayers have probably had at least once: "It doesn't say you can do that in your character's prorile. How are you able to do that in this thread?" On Wings or Fairy Tail, the answer is simple: if you don't have the trait for it, you can't do it. If you want your character to be completely fearless, then they will need that as a trait. If you don't have a trait, your character can't get that special effect. If your personality states you are fearless, then you should probably have several ranks in the fearless personality trait.
One or the obvious potential issues with a trait system is how to prevent characters from just saying "I have all or the traits!" The simple solution was to just assign a number or points that characters can spend on traits. There were a couple or ways we could have done this. We could have gone with static points, but then a brand new character would have the same amount or traits as an S-Class mage. Considering a D-Class mage is just learning how to be a mage at all, it wouldn't make sense for their mind or body to be as well honed as an S-Class mage. However, all characters can have a great depth or personality, as that's related more to their history than their power as a mage. In order to symbolize this, personality traits are set to maximum right at the start, but the body and mind gain trait points over time. Soul, however, does not get you any trait points. Your soul stat, divided by 10, is the number or spells you can know.
For every stat point that you invest into body or mind, you receive one body and one mind trait point respectively. So a character with 10 body and 20 mind has 10 body trait points and 20 mind trait points. This means that as your character grows in terms or raw power, they will also grow in their skill at wielding it. By default, you get 100 personality points to play with. One or the important things to note is that note not all traits are created equal. Some traits will have more ranks than others, and some traits will cost more per rank than others. This is because some traits, like martial arts skill, will be useful in basically every thread you enter, but other skills, such as knowledge: plants, may only be useful once in a blue moon.
Without further ado, let's get on to the traits themselves. The following sections list all the traits you have to pick from.

Characters with the Intimidate skill can more easily demonstrate dominance, raising the amount of health the monster can have by 5% per intimidate rank (a character with a 5 in intimidate would need to lower it to at least 35% of its health). Effect: Rank One: Scary characters are naturally intimidating, and receive a +1 bonus to intimidation.
Rank Two: +2 bonus to intimidation.
Rank Three: You are so scary that you can now ignore the body stat requirement on intimidation.
Rank Four: You are a master of fear, and can intimidate people without exerting any stamina.
Drawback: Scary characters are usually hard to get along with, unless you are scary as well. If someone gets to know you, they may not believe you are all that scary, unless you are constantly attempting to intimidate them. However, this drawback can be counted if you also have the docile trait. If having both those traits doesn't make sense to you, look at Mirajane for an example.

This trait will keep you from betraying your guild, but it won't help you the rest of the time.
