As alluded to in the plot thread, and as common sense would indicate on a Fairy Tail Forum, there are different guilds that you can join, or you can create your own. All guilds (yes, even the dark ones) have some rules that must be followed. Some may also have conditions on joining! In order to make your character, you're going to need to know what guild you want to join before you start coming up with a character concept. If you make a bloodthirsty murderer, but the Dark Guild you want to join only allows killing under rare circumstances, then you'll have a rough time with moral dilemmas in character.
So then, you’re going to need to brush up on your knowledge of the guilds that exist here. Since this story takes place far before the story we all know, you probably won’t be familiar with any of the guilds. Below, you’ll find some quick summaries of all the guilds currently around. If you don’t want to join one that already exists, you have several options. You can join the Rune Knights, who are summarized below as well. You can also choose to forego the guild system altogether and try to make it on your own. This is generally considered a harder option, as being a member of a guild generally has benefits. The only real advantage of going solo is that you have no one to answer to beyond the Rune Knights.
If you want to join a guild, but you’re thinking about a character that wouldn’t mesh well in one of the existing guilds, do not despair! Making a custom guild is relatively easy, but it does take a bit of extra work compared to joining an existing one. To make a new guild, simply fill out the Guild Charter Template found here and PM myself or roadrunner with the completed template. You can choose to either become the Guild Master yourself (once your character is accepted), or you can have an NPC leader. It is generally recommended that you have an NPC leader at first for several reasons. The biggest one is money. Running a guild costs money, and the guild won’t be making much money at the start. The NPC can fund this out of pocket for you. Having an NPC leader also means your guild can start off stronger, as NPCs aren’t required to start at D-class. This means your guild will be less vulnerable to outside attacks, as you can have a high-class NPC sitting around to protect it. The NPC template can be found here.
Angel Wing: This guild is run by Brennius Arosas Amatus. Brennius is hands-down the best man to ask when it comes to defeating evil mages. His magic only harms those who are evil, and is insanely effective against them. Angel Wing was originally formed as a means to make Brennius's hobby of hunting Dark Guilds more acceptable to the Rune Knights. Their primary purpose is to improve the world however they can, and to take justice into their own hands. The members will all help each other if one is in need, but there is a great deal of variance in how the guild members look at what the guild's role is. The guild's only rule is "Do what is right." Because this is a subjective rule, you get a lot of different opinions and lifestyles in the guild. Some, like Brennius, will actively seek out and attack Dark Guilds. Others will run around helping the poor. Anyone who isn't evil is welcome here. Angel Wing is located in a small town just outside of Crocus.
Blackmist: This guild is run by Braska Amatus, Brennius' younger brother. They don't have too many rules, but they frown upon killing other humans unless that's specifically part of the request. Blackmist was formed as a guild was not necessarily pure evil. They break laws regularly, so the Rune Knights aren't fond of them, but some of their members aren't too bad.
The Silver Syndicate: Description coming soon.
The Rune Knights are the standing army of Fiore. They are far larger than any guild could ever hope to be, as their numbers are measured in the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands. Their resources are completely incomparable to that of other organizations, as they are backed by the Royal Treasury. Most of their grunts wear a faceless suit of white armor that hides their identity, and these grunts are a common site in any settlement within Fiore. The Rune Knights are sworn to protect the law in Fiore, and to keep the country safe against outside attack. Players can join the Rune Knights if they want, but they will be somewhat restricted in terms of what they are generally allowed to do since the Rune Knights are basically cops and soldiers at the same time.
