Name:Iwamichi Rikage
Affiliation: BlackMist
Class: C
Age: 18
Height: 5’ 9”
Weight: 145 lbs.
General Appearance:
Iwamichi has short, straight, light blue hair that comes down to about her shoulders. She doesn’t wear it too long or else it would get in her way. She has a slender figure, and her skin is somewhat pale. Although she sure doesn’t want to look fat or ugly, she doesn’t do much extra to her physical appearance. She especially hates putting on makeup; it’s unnecessary and a waste of time. Her eyes are dark brown, but one can see that her right eye is covered with an eye patch. Some days she wears her hair past the patch so it’s less noticeable, but other days she just doesn’t bother to try.
Although her appearance looks really simple, she can still capture your attention, and when she talks she has an air about her that says she is confident in what she’s saying. Her appearance is always neat and clean. She never adds anything fancy or flashy to her face or hair, but that’s because they’re beautiful just the way they are. Her eyes gaze intently in every direction, yet nowhere in particular at the same time. Sometimes when she’s daydreaming, you can see a glimmer in her one good eye. When she walks, she’s not prideful or bashful. Everything about her appearance is simplistic, detail oriented, and well-kept.
Clothing:
Her clothing is as neat and well-kept as the rest of her. Of course, it’s nothing fancy, but casual, standard office apparel. It doesn’t have many layers because that would be annoying and a waste of time. Plus, it’s necessary to easily get to places, so she doesn’t load herself with armor and hindering equipment. Her clothing is somewhat loose, but not loose enough to look unprofessional. Almost all of it is just a standard grey, picking out lots of colors isn’t very fun. Of course, everything is always polished and ironed to make sure she looks respectable and clean. She wears basically the same outfit every day, so it’s not that hard to recognize her. She doesn’t want to go through all the trouble of picking out an outfit in the morning.
Her clothes are moderate; they look more like a desk worker’s clothes than a mage’s clothing. She doesn’t really care much about her appearance though, just that it is neat and clean. She wears a small tie around her neck and it gives her a more masculine look, not because she wants to be a guy but because she would rather look more masculine than girly any day. Her shoes are simple, made of leather that’s good for walking or running and will hold together for a long time. In fact, all her clothes are designed to hold together for a long time. That way, it would save a trip to the store and a waste of her time.
The eye patch over her right eye deserves special recognition. It looks simple enough, but it is made with a very special fabric. It’s from spider silk, a delicate substance, but when woven together becomes tough and hard to break. She has a couple backups, but most of the time, she’s confident that it won’t be coming off. It’s a very dark shade of black, so you can’t see her eye underneath; it adds to the mystery of her character though. What could her eye look like to warrant the need of an eye-patch? It’s mysterious and rough looking. It seems to contradict her reserved and thoughtful manner, but it causes her to observe and take in her surroundings a lot more.
Alignment: True Neutral
Personality:
Iwamichi wakes up every day the same. Not that she has to follow a strict code, but she doesn’t care to do anything different. Life has proven to be too long and too dull. Some would say that she has no passion at all, that she does whatever she feels like doing at that moment so her loyalty is ambiguous at best. For the most part, they would be right. She feels that if she got too passionate over one cause or another, she’d end up dying or something, which is an even bigger drag. Emotional speeches don’t really do anything for her. If it has to get done, then it has to, so there’s no point in trying to dress up any fancier than it already is. Sometimes, the things you have to do will not be decent; people should consider that, and if they get too caught up in some stupid charismatic speech to overlook that, then they’re idiots.
She’s quiet and reserved, so most people tend to avoid her. Most of the time, she sits in thought and only comes out to say something if she really has to. Because of this, she has learned to be more calculative and thoughtful than rush in towards things. She’d rather stay behind and provide backup to someone else, let them do all the work. Of course, in the end she won’t just stand there and watch them die. She’s not that heartless. But if she had been the one planning everything out, there would be no need to worry. Everything would go smoothly the first time. Probably. If you met her, you wouldn’t say she’s prideful, but she’s not humble either. She knows her strengths and weaknesses, nothing more, nothing less.
Iwamichi is not just apathetic; however, she is rational and brutally honest. That’s another reason why she doesn’t speak her mind very often. She doesn’t understand why people get so upset when she’s just telling them the truth of the matter. It goes without saying that most people don’t see eye to eye with her. Really, she couldn’t be bothered with trivial emptions like anger or love or happiness. Those things could get in the way, and they just create drama which is really a drag. Because she has such a lack of emotion, people take her for being a lot more evil than she actually is. Not that she cares anyway. People’s opinions of her are just… well you know.
Even with her seemingly starvation of human emotion, she can’t help but show compassion and kindness to those who are really close to her. If someone took the time to get to know her, she might open up a little. On her own, she won't approach anyone or attempt to make friends. If you asked her, she'd say she was heterosexual-she prefers guys-but that doesn't mean she's actually interested in a relationship of any kind. She does not work too often, only when something really needs to be done. She spends more time up on a roof making origami than anything. Although she comes off as aloof all the time, she is very dependable and everyone knows they can call on her to do what needs to be done. That does not mean she won’t complain about it a little though.
Iwamichi is cold and calculating and doesn't like rushing into things. This way, she builds up lots of endurance, and she can respond quickly to attacks. She's light on her feet and quick to respond. Her calm demeanor hides her overflowing endurance and energy well. She continues to fight and think of options when she is in battle, and she won't let anything interfere with her victory. Even if she's in pain, she'll hide it. Emotions, fear, pain- she'll bury all of them in order to ensure that she can fight for however long is required. She absolutely will not lose; she can't become weak.
Her hatred of losing also makes her brave in situations where others would cower in fear. If she was entrusted with a task, she will definitely carry it out. Cowards who don't do their duty because they're too afraid are annoying. Of course, she knows what she can and can't do, so if it's a losing fight she won't be so unrealistic to think that she can win. Her bravery isn't founded on foolish things like optimism or hope. She just can't stand handing the victory over to someone without at least trying to use her brain and win. Lastly, to make sure that she doesn't find herself in an overwhelming situation, Iwamichi devotes herself to small puzzles and word games that don't take too much time but test her mental skills. She studies on different techniques or stories in order to become the most well-rounded and educated person. Whether it's studying or fighting, she won't lose to anyone.
Likes:
Origami- It’s pretty relaxing and not very stressful. It takes a bit of concentration, but it’s a better alternative to other things in life that get pretty hectic.
Ramen- It’s simple to eat and make, enough said. Cooking would just take up too much time, so ramen is the perfect remedy to that.
The sea- Iwamichi loves looking at the waves; she could stare at it for hours. She likes how it’s so free and open, and it does whatever it wants.
Puzzles- She likes to challenge her mind every once in a while to keep her wits up. How many she does in one day is entirely dependent on her mood, however.
Cats- They lie around all day, what could be cooler. They look like they’re pretty uninterested most of the time, but really they’re scanning their surroundings and watching your every move. They’re the smartest creatures she knows.
The rain- It feels good in your skin, and it makes everything seem slower and more peaceful. Less people come out in the rain, so she can be alone with her thoughts more often when it rains.
Dislikes:
Emotional people- They get too worked up too quickly. Then, they expect you to cheer them up, and then you’re just wasting your time. Not to mention, how illogical they are because they’re too absorbed in their emotions just ticks her off.
Loud noises- They’re super annoying and distracting. She can’t think straight when her brain is too occupied on the noise blasting through her ears. Therefore, she hates them.
The City- She could do without it; there are too many cars, people, building, noises. There is absolutely no space to think and collect your thoughts anywhere, and it always smells!
Gardening- It just requires way too much work for something that produces little. Just go buy something from the store if you’re hungry. Really, people are stupid for wasting half of their day on an inanimate patch of earth.
Sports- There isn’t much point to them. So you score more points than the other team and get a big trophy, so what? You’re not really using your brain, just your fake muscles that you’ve tried to acquire as fast as possible and that’s not impressive at all.
Fighting Style:
Iwamichi isn’t a very big melee fighter. She prefers brains over brawn, so her punches or kicks or only mediocre at best. However, she’ll try and channel some of her lighting aura into a punch or a kick in order to stun the enemy, slow their movements, or disorient them for a time. She carries a long, whip made of finely woven copper wires. They conduct electricity very well and she uses them to reach targets with a surge of electricity quickly. Because the whip is so flexible and light, she can easily use it to get at small targets or position her attacks towards a specific area. It works well with her range style of fighting. The whip can be used for a sharp, stinging smack that just deals light damage, or it can be used to send a powerful surge of electricity into the opponent’s body quickly. It gives her options, so she likes that.
Specifically, Iwamichi will use her whip as a lasso to hook a limb or part of her opponent and make sure a shock is delivered. Or, she’ll crack it over her head or from the side toward the intended target in a quick, stinging flash. If necessary, the whip would come in handy to wrap around hanging objects and give her a perch to swing from. Well, this could be handy if she needed to get across a certain ravine, but also to grab a tree branch or something and pull her out of the way of any trouble if no other way to dodge seems plausible.
Because of her specific abilities, Iwamichi likes to keep a certain distance and remain as far away from her opponent whenever possible. She has great endurance, so she doesn’t mind attacking while running, firing multiple shots at her opponent in different directions. She tries to assess every possible option, and she keeps her weapons and abilities flexible to different scenarios and attacking methods. While she’s definitely not a coward, she’d rather back away to fight long distance than up close in melee. She also enjoys disabling her opponent; she’ll paralyze them for a time or slow their movements down enough so dodging and blocking is impeded. That way, she has a better chance of increasing fighting distance and the number of her attacks.
Lastly, her fighting center largely revolves around her analytical ability and her problem-solving. Before attacking or rushing in on her own, she tries to analyze the strengths or weaknesses of both parties if it’s possible to do so. The last thing that she’d do is panic. Even if things are going horribly wrong, she’ll try and think of a way out. Sometimes she overthinks, though, so that’s a flaw to her rational and analytical style. If possible, she’ll keep multiple options open and act in the way she thinks will be the most rewarding. She doesn’t go around looking to kill people, but if it happens to turn out that way in a fight, oh well. It’s one of the few things that depends on her current mood; everything else is done in a rational and thoughtful manner.
Magic and Spells:
Iwamichi is a caster type lighting mage. She has a purple magic circle. Basically, her magic is more range-based that strikes foes head on and then deals a little more shock to their body and nervous system over time. She likes using her powers as an unstoppable, innumerable barrage of lightning again and again. Also, she uses her knowledge and acuity to deal small, calculated blows designed to mess with the target’s, balance, coordination, speed, reflexes, or mental stability. Depending on the foe, she’ll shower them with a full on attack or sit behind another partner and time strikes to impede them.

The bolt appears a couple feet above the target's head; it's not impossible to dodge, but very difficult.

Iwamichi’s bedroom is dull and lifeless. There’s 2oo square feet of almost nothing. Evenly split, there are 150 feet of storage space and 50 feet of living space. It’s enough to store all the items she wishes and have space to move around. Within all this, she has basically a bed and a dresser. She carries only a couple books because she only bothers reading really important or factual based books; other books would just be a waste of time and take up space. So, she has a single shelf for her books and that’s it. Besides, she'd rather go to the library to study the books she wants instead of keeping them in her room. There’s a solid green rug on the floor so it doesn’t get too cold and her bead-spread is an ordinary white. Her past origami pieces are kept in a drawer in her nightstand. It’s the only thing in the room that’s very messy too.
Although there’s not much to see, she doesn’t care. It fits her needs, which is to rest and take a break from work. From her room, she has easy access to the roof where she spends much of her time making origami or looking at the clouds. There’s a small heater in the corner of the room that needs regular works sporadically. Everything is kept clean from dust and dirt, but she doesn’t live in this room often. There are no paintings or pictures on the walls; they are unnecessary. The floor is basic hardwood so it can easily be swept at regular intervals. Overall, it’s dull and there isn’t much life to it, but that’s just the way she likes it.

History:
Iwamichi was born in a rural village nestled in between the larger warring nations. Because of the country’s awkward position, it was always the battleground for war and destruction. Over the years, various groups and idealists fought their battles in this territory, whether it was involved or not. Villages were divided against one another constantly; loyalty was fleeting. The land was almost completely destroyed beyond recognition during the Age of Technology. After guns and weapons were abandoned, people came back to settle in the land. They thought it was finally safe to raise a family and make their home. True, guns and missiles would no longer be used, but a new kind of weapon was already forming. Magic soon took its place, and the fighting resumed.
Iwamichi grew up in this unstable, turbulent time. At one time, she grew up in ignorance, in frivolity. And then she met reality. It was a warm night. People laughed, danced, and sung songs with friends around good food and wine. It was a time of revelry, but if anyone knew the events that would take place, not a smile would they make. A group of night-raiders were already on their way-hungry for blood and devastation. Iwamichi was picking flowers for the dinner table when they came, screaming their battle cries and launching their magical properties. In fear, the only thing she knew was to seek refuge with her parents.
The town was in panic, tables were overturned, women were captured, and men were burned with fire. Iwamichi’s house lay on the edge of the town. It seemed like hours before she actually reached the door. On the other side, her parents were waiting. They weren’t the only ones. A dark man appeared in the corner; his eyes were dark and his hair was dark red. His nose was slightly crooked and his breath was hoarse. “What is it child” he asked, “are these your parents?” To his day, she doesn’t know if she nodded or not, but the man knew the answer anyways. “You love them very much, right?” He laughed, if that was what it could be called. “Remember that because that is the reason why they must die.”
Blood. It was the last thing she saw-the crimson stains on the floor and two bodies smashed to pieces. The murderer turned to the screaming child. “Stop crying. If you want to remain weak forever, then cling to your emotions. Then, your family and friends will certainly die. Love no one and you will lose no one. Make no friends and you will never cry. Cry, and weakness will consume you.” He said no more and left. She learned a lesson that day. Life was cruel, and if you want to live, then be strong and use your head. Stop thinking for a second, and you’ll die.
She let go the idea of revenge, even if most people would not. She only had one person to blame for their deaths, herself. If love was the reason they died, she would get rid of it. If she got rid of love, she would shed anger, happiness, and sadness as well. None of her emotions were needed any more. That day, Iwamichi built two small graves for her parents' battered corpses. She shed her last tears as she piled the dirt upon them. The words of the man kept coming into her mind. It was her fault they died. She loved them; that's why that maniac had killed them. So, she had to punish herself some way. Then, she would never make that mistake again. Taking a shard of class, she dug and scraped and gouged out her right eye. Blood poured out of her body. There was excrutiating pain everywhere. She could not see the truth earlier-she was blinded by her happiness and emotions. Now, she had to curse herself by physically blinding herself. That way she would remember, remember that her ignorance was what caused her parents to suffer.
After her traumatic ordeal, she bought an eyepatch. After all, she didn't want people to see a black hole in the side of her face where her eye should be. Iwamichi did not have a family or money anymore, so she traveled and found as much work as she could. Soon, she decided that she wanted to take up the art of magic. Magic was power these days. But finding someone who would teach her would be difficult. She decided that to find a tutor, she had to use the one thing she knew she had. Mental prowess. At age 17, she entered a gambling hall looking for a prospective teacher.
There, she found a powerful lightning mage drinking and laughing. His clothes were simple, but he wore a dark blue robe with silver thunderbolts down the back; it was a symbol of his pride as a mage and his superior status. He seemed to be in good spirits, but his friends around the table were not so happy. His pile of money was stacked up to his chin. After careful studying, she decided that this was her perfect target. “Hello!” She greeted them with a golden smile. Most of them did not bother to reply. A smaller mage with a large purple cone hat snuffed in her direction.
“We’re busy. Just bring us all another round of rum.” The others nodded. Iwamichi kept her cool, even though they mistook her for a waitress. “You misunderstand me,” she replied, “I would like to join your game.” Silence covered the table. Suddenly, they burst out laughing. “Get out of here, girl,” the one in the tall hat sneered. “This is no place for an innocent ‘un like yourself,” another spat. Iwamichi predicted this reaction.
“Oh well, guess I’ll go somewhere else to spend all this money. And I was hoping to do something with it after I got this huge raise.” She started swinging her red money pouch around her finger slowly, making it appear heavy and newly filled. The one in the flowing blue robe finally turned to her. “Come on, guys, if the girl wants to spend her money, let her!” His eyes twinkled and looked intently at the pouch around her finger to gauge the amount of money carried within.
“Wow, you’re nice mister!” She grabbed a seat and shuffled out a few coins to get in the game. The men shrugged and dealt her some cards. It was now or never. She had to use all her knowledge and skill or else she might not ever be able to get herself a tutor. Three hours later, and Iwamichi had a stack of coins bigger than the proud lightning mage’s. His brow was drenched in sweat, and he looked about to burst. He was the only one left.
The cards were dealt. Iwamichi’s hand looked bleak. The best she had was a 2 pair. She glanced at her opponent. After rounds of disappointment and frustration, it seemed he finally had a winning hand. He let a triumphant smile slip across his face. Based on the few cards dealt to the middle of the table, she can somewhat guess his hand. “I’m all-in” he whispered soflty, and his gaze immediately rested upon Iwamichi. She could fold, but if she by a miracle won the round, she could take all of his money.
By now, a crowd had formed around the gambling table, and the heat was immense. Both parties had called. It just came down to one more card to flip. On the inside, she was a mess, but she made sure she didn’t show one bit of it on the outside. And then, the last card came- the queen of spades. The mage smiled wickedly and threw his cards down. “Straight!” he cried. The crowd applauded uproariously. Then, all eyes fell on Iwamichi. She laid down her cards and started collecting her money. “Royal flush,” she chided.
Everyone was dumbfounded. Halfway through collecting the coins, she stopped. “I feel awful,” she started, “I don’t know what I’m going to do with all this money!” The mage didn’t lift his head out of his hands. “It was a fun game, and you let me play anyway, so I think I should let you have half of it.” His eyes lit up. “For a favor, of course,” she added. And that is how she found a tutor to teach her for the next few years.
Her reputation as a successful gambler spread to every other tavern in town. Since gambling was not a respectful pastime, many people looked down on her. “Who does she think she is?” they asked. The magic guilds rejected the notion of taking her under their wings. It was a serious annoyance. She didn’t care about people’s opinions, but she needed some place to hone and grow her skills. Being a lone mage was out of the question. That would take too much work. Guilds refused to give her a chance. Most of them, anyway. Although it was not an established, accepted guild, there was one that welcomed her unique talents and witty expertise.
She felt at home in the Blackmist guild. They weren’t tied down by rules and restrictions. They did what they wanted, fought for whatever, and no one cared about much. Maybe she could get off without having to contribute a lot of time or energy. The purpose of joining this guild was only to be protected and be given some support. She wasn’t going to bother making friends; she knew they’d be a hindrance. She had a teacher and a place to stay. Now, she would survive, and know true power, so no one could be able to touch her again.
Role-playing Sample:
The air was thick with a light fog, and the grass was heavy with dew. Iwamichi stood in a clearing in the middle of the forest. The time: 3:00 in the morning. The sun had not begun to raise its golden head across the horizon yet. It was pitch dark, but she could still see the masked intruder on the other side of the clearing. Their eyes stared at each other for a while. It seemed like he wasn’t going to speak. That was fine with her; they were going to have to get down to the fight sometime though. She couldn’t let him get past her because she had been charged with an important mission. While the leaders were away, she had to guard the west gate of the mansion. A fire lit in the intruder’s eyes and he started to rush toward her.
She watched him charge recklessly at her. His speed wasn’t anything to brag about, maybe 5 miles per hour. First, she’d analyze the situation. He held a dagger in each hand, and he had light armor. Most likely, he was aiming to side swipe her across the neck or chest or do a combo hit. That means he would have to shift his weight to one foot on one side of his body first before attacking. From the way he held the daggers she could see he was right handed, so he would definitely be attacking from her left first.
If he attacked with his right hand, he would shift his weight to his left leg to give him speed. Cooly, she retrieved the whip from her side and held it against her leg. When he was a couple feet from her, she cracked the whip toward his right leg and hooked the whip around it. The man did not expect such a quick response; he had already shifted his weight toward the left side, so when she yanked his right foot he completely flew in the air and landed on his back. The sudden impact left him breathless for a couple seconds. That’s all she needed. She grabbed a large rope that she had brought with her and twisted it in a noose.
Iwamichi sent a couple bolts of electricity into his body to make his movements slow. Since he was already on the ground, it would be even more difficult to get back up and try to escape. She slung the noose over the tree, dragging the drunken body to its perch. It wasn’t her habit of executing people, but she had to make a statement. And, he was asking for it by barging in like that. You always think things through first. She thought he knew that since he took a while in attacking. He was probably stupid and hoped that she would just let him waltz in there. He didn’t even attempt to use some sort of magic. The dangling corpse hung motionless as she watched. She felt nothing and walked back to her post.
